Review Meeting of Private Hospitals involvement in TB control and
planning for strengthening mandatory TB case notification (2019)

Annual Review Meeting of Private Hospitals involvement in TB control and planning for strengthening mandatory TB case notification (2019) was held in Pullman Centrepoint Hotel at 4th October, 2019. Present on the occasions were Vice President (MMA), Dy DG (Yangon Region Health Department), NTP officials, Private hospital personnel and project staff.

Firstly Dr. Khin Pyone Kyi, Vice President, MMA (Central)  delivered  opening speech and highlighted  about current MMA TB Project’s activities, then Dr. Tun Myint, Regional Health Deputy Director-General (Yangon Region) also delivered his  speech featuring TB situations in Myanmar and status of mandatory TB notification by private sectors. After that, Dr. Zaw Myint, Senior TB specialist, Lower Myanmar and Dr. Thet Naing Maung, Project Coordinator of MMA TB Project welcomed and explained about the objectives of review meeting.

During business session of meeting, all participants discussed, explained and reviewed PPM TB activities in Private Hospitals, accompanied with MMA TB Project.MMA TB Project is now implementing Private hospital PPM activities in 15 Private hospitals over the country in coordination with NTP with GF support.

In addition, participants discussed about and seek way forwards for strengthening mandatory TB case notification from targeted (10) private hospitals as listed below.

  5. Pan Hlaing Siloam Hospital

Activities of MMA TB Project in brief

(January, 2019 to 3rd week of June, 2019)

 

MMA TB Project has been implementing TB care and control activities including presumptive TB referral to National Tuberculosis Program (Scheme I), TB case Management (Scheme III), MDR TB care and support activities, focusing the comorbidities like TB-HIV and TB-DM and private hospital involvement in TB control. During these two quarters of 2019, MMA TB project had conducted various types of meeting and trainings for TB and MDR TB care and support activities.

Regarding MDR care and support activities, MDR TB Team of MMA TB Project had organized MDR TB Awareness Raising Activities in Kawhmu Township, Yangon Region. Team members had also organized (3) MDR TB Volunteer trainings in Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwaddy Regions respectively in order to strengthen community based TB  care and support activities with the power of  community volunteers. In addition, MDR Team had conducted (3) MDR TB volunteer coordinating meetings in Yangon, Bago and Ayeyarwaddy Regions to know the situation of patient-centered community based MDR TB care and treatment support by community supporters in townships and to strengthen the coordination between townships BHS and community supporters who are providing DOT to MDR TB patients.

Program Management Department of MMA TB Project has also given supportive supervision on MMA TB Project. M & E Manger had on-site visit to South Dagon MDR TB patient’s home during June, 2019.

To disseminate the updated technical and managerial skill of GPs in TB care and control, to provide quality TB diagnosis and management, many trainings such as on-the-job training for newly assigned Project Staff and newly recruited GPs, Scheme I (Proper referral of TB patients to NTP) trainings and Scheme III trainings (TB diagnosis and management by MMA GPs) has conducted under the guidance of National Tuberculosis Program during these quarters.

For strengthening private hospital involvement in TB control activities, PPM Team of MMA TB Project had conducted CME sessions at Private Hospitals in Yangon. Moreover, PPM team took responsibility to launch pre-visit for Private Hospital extension. In addition, preliminary visits to expand newly expanding townships were completed by PPM team during these quarters.

In order to find out comorbidities of TB, MMA TB Project had implemented TB-HIV collaborative activities since 2015. In addition, to focus another comorbidity of TB like TB-DM, advocacy meeting and training on TB-DM was also conducted in Yangon and Bago Regions during 2019.

Moreover, Implementation Unit of MMA TB (Conso) Project (Access to Health Fund) had also reinforced for scaling up urban TB control and care in Yangon Region. After many advocacy meetings and pre-visits with the authorized person and all stakeholders in Shwepyithar, Thingangyun and South Okkalapa of Yangon Region, mobile team activity has been implementing to find more TB case among the urban people.
