Cyclone Nargis Disaster Relief Activities

Formation of Cyclone Nargis Disaster Relief Committee
Disaster Relief Committee (DRC) headed by the President of Myanmar Medical Association (Central).

Objectives

1) Emergency Relief Medical Care at disaster areas by medical teams
2) Develop Relief Fund with donation from MMA members, specialist societies' contribution, pharmaceutical companies, International agencies donors and well wishers in the country.
3) Distribution of foods, water, clothes, utensils and medicines directly to the victims.
4) Close collaboration with WHO, UNFPA, 3Ds Fund and INGOs for short term projects with the aim of sustainable relief medical care, prevention and the control of outbreak of communicable diseases.

Information for Medical Volunteers in Nargis Storm Relief

Information for Medical Volunteers

MMA warmly welcome your contributions in Nargis Storm disaster relief activities. MMA need local medical doctors to volunteer in Medical teams visiting to disastrous areas in Ayeyarwaddy Division and Yangon Division. MMA assigns volunteers in day-trip medical tour and short-trip medical tour (5 days) to give medical care for the victims.

Buddhist Section of MMA

The Buddhist Association of the Myanmar Medical Association was born out of a strong desire of pioneer doctors who had practiced meditation at the Mahasi Sasana Yeitha to have a place for meditation sessions within the premises of the MMA. After a request, permissiom granted, and the MMA Buddhist Association was officially formed on 2-4-80 after an Opening Ceremony, presided by the Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw.
There are roughly about 40 – 60 members.
